Patricia Kyle Dennis, Ph.D., is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Group
Psychotherapist, and a Charter Member of the Academy for Eating Disorders. She
specializes full-time in the treatment of eating disorders. She is licensed and trained to
use scientific and therapeutic skills based on time-tested theory and modern research.
Dr. Dennis has a Masters in Social Work degree from Washington University's Brown
School and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Social Work degree from the Institute for
Clinical Social Work in Chicago. She also has advanced training in psychodynamic,
family, and group psychotherapy.
The Ten Week Group for women who are overeating and gaining weight is her original
design. It has been revised and updated based on current research and feedback from
group participants. She has led eighty of these groups since 1985. Her follow-up
therapy groups began shortly afterward and are still in existence, allowing her to
evaluate her patients' progress over the long run.
She has a special interest in working with teens and adults who have a severe eating
disorder, anorexia or bulimia, and have sometimes struggled with the disorder for
many years. She enjoys working with men and adolescent boys as well as women and
girls, and understands the different needs of each of these groups.
Dr. Dennis is a founder of Psychotherapy Saint Louis and of the St. Louis Eating
Disorders Network. She teaches community education and graduate level courses, at
local and national professional conferences. She enjoys speaking to community groups
and providing supervision, consultation, and training for therapists, health care
professionals, and educators. Her expertise is in the areas of eating disorders, group
psychotherapy, private practice development, and ethics.
She is committed to the “Health at Every Size” philosophy, and to promoting the
equality of all human beings. She believes that her own progress in controlling her
eating and improving her body image is valuable to the people she helps.
